FALLS CHURCH, VA ― March 25, 2015 ― Inova’s Population Health Division and Grants Management Office (GMO) this week announced the first four recipients of grants from the Inova Community Health Fund. The fund was developed to encourage collaboration between Inova and local nonprofits in order to best address the health needs of the community.
The four recipients were chosen from a pool of 17 submissions. The winners are Prince William Area Free Clinic, The Child and Family Network Centers, Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna, and Volunteer Fairfax. The funds will be awarded in April, and the organizations must complete their projects within 12 months.
The Prince William Free Clinic, located in Woodbridge, Virginia, was awarded $13,951 to fund a part-time bilingual LPN to support its uninsured diabetic patients through individualized and group care and education classes.
The Child and Family Network Centers provides high-quality, free preschool education and intensive social services to 175 at-risk children and their families in the City of Alexandria. The $5,000 grant will be used to support the Centers’ health services program to help families access community-based services; fill out Medicaid, medical and dental forms; schedule health screenings; provide translation services; and, offer health education workshops.
Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna was awarded $2,100 to support its transportation services, which provides drivers so aging adults can get to medical appointments and pick up necessary medications.
Volunteer Fairfax will use its $8,000 grant award to support the Retired Senior Volunteer Program – a Northern Virginia initiative between Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria to engage volunteers age 55 and older.
