Inova Goes to the Olympics

Inova Mount Vernon’s Dr. Sameer Nagda serves as Team Physician to Olympic Women’s Soccer Team in Rio

Inova Mount Vernon orthopaedic surgeon Sameer Nagda, MD had the privilege of serving as Team Physician for the United States Olympic Women’s soccer team for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the medical team taking care of the U.S. Women’s soccer team,” said Dr. Nagda.  “Our medical team takes great pride in providing world-class clinical care for the women representing the United States in Rio, defending the gold medal won in London in 2012.”

Writes Andrew Kim of the Washington Business Journal, Nagda got the “sports medicine job of a lifetime.”

So how did the team do?

The top-ranked American team played a strong game against Sweden in their quarterfinal match, especially in the opening half when “the U.S. controlled the ball for more than three-quarters of the time, getting off more than half a dozen shots,” according to the L.A. Times. The U.S. women continued to hold tough and keep Sweden on the defensive, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. (Sweden moved on to the semi-finals after a shocking penalty kick shootout.)

About Dr. Nagda

In addition to his work with U.S. Soccer and the United States Olympic Committee, Dr. Nagda currently serves as the team physician for the Potomac Nationals Baseball Team, and was an assistant orthopaedic physician for Georgetown University. He is an orthopaedic sports medicine specialist at the renowned Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic and Inova Joint Replacement Center at Mount Vernon Hospital.  He also serves as assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at the Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Dr. Nagda is a sought-after orthopaedic sports specialist and speaker, and is a member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine.  He also serves as Program Director for Inova’s annual Sports Medicine Symposium.
