Are You Eligible for Medicaid in Virginia?

Good news! The Medicaid rules in Virginia have changed. As of January 1, 2019, more people are eligible for low-cost or no-cost health coverage. Are you one of them?

Who is Eligible for Medicaid coverage?

More Virginia residents between the ages of 19 and 64 now qualify for Medicaid.

  • Legal Virginia residents, ages 19 to 64
  • Not already in or eligible for Medicare
  • Must meet income requirements, which vary by household size:
    • A single adult making up to $17,237 per year
    • A disabled adult making up to $17,237 per year
    • A family of three making up to $29,436 per year

How to Apply for Medicaid

The Inova Health Access Program provides FREE assistance with the Medicaid application and enrollment process. Trained staff will meet with you in person or by phone. We can also connect you to other safety net services in the community. 

The state of Virginia also offers resources for Medicaid questions and application information, to help Virginia residents get the health care they need.

APPLY ONLINE: www.commonhelp.virginia.gov or www.healthcare.gov

APPLY BY PHONE: Call toll-free 1-855-242-8282 (TDD 1-888-221-1590). Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.

APPLY BY MAIL: Download the application (English application / Spanish application) and mail it to your local Department of Social Services. Find the correct address here. (Note: sending an application by mail takes longer than other methods.)

How can Inova help Medicaid participants?

Inova Health Advantage is a new primary care service exclusively for Medicaid patients. The Alexandria clinic is now open and accepting new patients. Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Women’s Medicaid care in Leesburg, VA

The Inova OB/GYN Clinic at Loudoun Hospital offers comprehensive obstetrical services and prenatal care to Medicaid patients in cooperation with the Loudoun County Department of Health and Healthworks of Northern Virginia.

Children’s Medicaid care in Falls Church, VA

For Medicaid families with children who need to see a primary care doctor, Inova Cares Clinic for Children is a patient-centered medical home providing comprehensive pediatric services to families who qualify for Medicaid, are uninsured, or underinsured.
