Inova Announces $10 Million Planned Gift Commitment from Win Sheridan

Falls Church, VA, March 21, 2024 Inova today announced that it has received a $10 million planned gift commitment from Win Sheridan, co-founder of APEX Systems, to be applied towards the health system’s Greatest Needs fund. This fund is disbursed at the discretion of the CEO for critical projects and initiatives.

“Every gift to our Greatest Needs fund is a vote of confidence in our team, our shared vision and our enduring ability to care for our community,” said J. Stephen Jones, MD, President and CEO, Inova. “Win’s commitment takes this a step further, with the conviction that Inova is the right partner to entrust with this most important task—the health of our community, now and into the future.”

Sheridan previously donated one million dollars in 2021 to endow the Sheridan Director, Molecular Tumor Board (MTB) at Inova Schar Cancer. The MTB includes oncologists, geneticists, biochemists and clinicians, who help match patients with rare or recurring advanced cancers with personalized treatment designed to treat the characteristics of their specific cancer.

For this most recent gift, Sheridan says he was inspired by Inova’s commitment to innovation and making cutting-edge therapies accessible, and his desire that his legacy represents his own highest priority—ensuring the best possible care is available to the people of Northern Virginia in their own backyard.

“When you’re battling a serious disease, having world-class care that you don’t have to travel for makes all the difference,” said Sheridan. “At the end of the day, I want Inova to continue providing the best possible care, if and when it’s needed by me, by my family, my friends, my community.”

“It’s deeply meaningful to receive a planned gift commitment from someone like Win,” added Sage Bolte, PhD, LCSW, CST, FAOSW, Chief Philanthropy Officer and President of the Inova Health Foundation. “He has already made such a tremendous impact on Inova and in our community, and we are grateful for the powerful legacy he is creating through this new commitment. I know he will inspire others to stretch their thinking about different approaches to supporting Inova’s mission.”

Sheridan was also motivated by the $75 million Schar Challenge, issued to the community by Dwight and Martha Schar in May 2023. With a landmark gift to the now renamed Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, the philanthropist couple issued a challenge to their community to match their investment in the following year. Sheridan’s commitment is an important step towards that community match.

“Dwight and Martha inspire all of us to step up our game,” said Sheridan. “And whenever you give to Inova, whatever you’re able, you become your own hero. Because everybody can do something, knowing that the day will come when each of us will need Inova to be there for us, for our loved ones. We can all get behind this challenge.”
