Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital Achieves ChildKind Certification

Designation Recognizes Hospital’s Strong Commitment to Pediatric Pain Prevention and Management

Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital recently achieved certification from ChildKind International, a global organization dedicated to improving the quality of pediatric pain care around the world. The designation recognizes healthcare facilities that have implemented standardized, institution-wide, collaborative approaches to the prevention and treatment of children’s pain.

Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital is the first and only hospital in the Mid-Atlantic area to achieve ChildKind certification.

ChildKind Certified hospitals must meet five core principles:

  1. An institutional commitment to pain prevention, assessment and treatment
  2. Ongoing education programs and awareness initiatives on pain for team members, patients, families and caregivers
  3. Use of evidence-based, developmentally appropriate processes for assessment of acute and chronic pain
  4. Specific evidence-based protocols for pain prevention and treatment including pharmacological, psychological and physical methods
  5. Regular self-monitoring within the framework of continuous quality improvement

“Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital is proud to join an elite group of hospitals around the world that meet the highest standards in pediatric pain care,” said Steve Narang, MD, MHCM, President, Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and President, Inova Pediatric Service Line. “This credential further underscores Inova’s commitment to make children’s comfort the cornerstone of our compassionate medical care.”
