Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Now Offering Advanced Joint Replacement Technology

Alexandria, VA – As part of Inova’s continued investment in the latest surgical technology, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital (IMVH) is proud to offer Mako SmartRobotics™ for hip and knee procedures. Mako technology allows for more precise and accurate placement of the implants around the joints, reducing complications, pain and recovery time.

“Mako technology allows me to create a personalized plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy,” said Robert Sershon, MD, a fellowship-trained hip and knee surgeon at the Inova Joint Replacement Center located at IMVH. “For some patients, this can mean less soft tissue damage, for others, greater bone preservation. It’s exciting to be able to use this transformative technology to perform total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements while enhancing the recovery process for patients.”

Inova Joint Replacement Center offers a wide range of services designed to make the patient experience as seamless and convenient as possible. The center includes all private rooms, state-of-the-art space for physical therapy and easy access to IMVH’s renowned rehabilitation services. In most cases, patients who receive hip or knee replacements are able to leave the hospital on the same day.

“We have been performing minimally invasive robotic surgeries with Mako at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and Inova Loudoun Hospital for a number of years now,” said Roberta Tinch, President of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and Administrator of Inova’s Musculoskeletal Service Line. “We are thrilled to be able to offer the same cutting-edge technology to our patients in this area of Northern Virginia. This addition to our orthopedic services further demonstrates our mission to provide the community with world-class healthcare – every time, every touch.”

Inova’s team of specialty-trained surgeons performs more than 3,800 joint replacements in Northern Virginia each year. Many of the Inova hospitals have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for outstanding care in hip and knee replacements. This distinction recognizes orthopedic excellence, resulting in fewer patient complications and hospital readmissions. IMVH is a designated Inova Joint Replacement Center of Excellence and one of Inova’s busiest joint replacement centers.

This sounds terrific! But I just completed ALL four of the joint replacements that the Robotics could have helped me with. Oh, wait, if I live long enough, now 74, it could possibly help replace the replacements!
