James Ecklund, MD, Named President, Inova Neurosciences Service Line

Falls Church, VA – James Ecklund, MD, FACS, COL (Ret), MC, US Army, has been named President, Inova Neurosciences Service Line.  In this role, Dr. Ecklund will be responsible for managing the performance of Inova’s highly-trained and nationally-recognized physicians who are leaders in the diagnosis, treatment and research of complex neurological conditions including neurotrauma, spine conditions, epilepsy, movement disorders, brain and spinal tumors, memory disorders, stroke and cerebrovascular disease.

Dr. Ecklund completed his neurosurgical residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1993.  Prior to joining Inova in 2007, he served 10 years as the Professor and Chairman of the Neurosurgery Program of the National Capital Consortium, which includes Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center and the Uniformed Services University.  Since joining Inova, he has served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosciences at Inova Fairfax Hospital and Medical Director for Neurosciences for the Inova Health System.

Dr. Ecklund is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and was deployed as a neurosurgeon to both Afghanistan and Iraq.   He earned his Bachelor of Science with Honors from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a Doctor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, in Bethesda, MD.
