Robin West, MD, Named President, Inova’s Musculoskeletal Service Line

Educator, Sports Medicine physician tapped for expertise

Falls Church, VA – Robin West, MD, has been named President of Inova’s Musculoskeletal Service Line.  In this role, Dr. West is responsible for leading the Musculoskeletal team in providing world class orthopedic and sports medicine care, and Inova’s internationally recognized joint replacement and Sports Medicine programs.

“We are proud to have Dr. West’s leadership for Inova’s orthopedic programs and full range of musculoskeletal services, which are the largest in Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC metro area,” said Steve Motew, MD, Chief, Clinical Enterprise at Inova. “Dr. West is Lead Team Physician for the Washington Nationals and she chairs the Inova Sports Medicine team; she will now captain an important service line for Inova.” Inova Musculoskeletal services help people with trauma, arthritis, orthopedic illness or injury to regain their active lifestyles.

Dr. West joined Inova in 2014 where she was responsible for Inova Sports Medicine’s clinical, strategic, administrative and academic affairs.  Dr. West has a special interest in injury prevention and management of injuries. She leads a nationally recognized team of physicians who focus on athletes’ whole health to determine the root cause of an injury and to develop prevention strategies that will minimize recurrence and maximize athletic performance.  Dr. West will continue to serve as the Lead Team Physician for the Washington Nationals.

Dr. West earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Johns Hopkins University, and Doctor of Medicine from George Washington University. Following her internship in General Surgery and her Orthopedic Surgical residency at George Washington University, as well as a Sports Medicine and Shoulder fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, she became an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh and served as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers, The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University for 12 years.
