Media Advisory: Support Inova’s Healthy Plate Club at Fairfax’s Newest Grocery Store, Earth Fare

Inova’s Healthy Plate Club is celebrating the opening of a new grocery store in Fairfax, Virginia and the store is giving back. Earth Fare, the original authentic natural and organic food grocery store, will host a pre-opening sneak peek tour on January 8 at 5:45 p.m., and will donate $3,000 to the Inova Healthy Plate Club. The tour is open to the public. Earth Fare officially opens in Fairfax on January 10 at 7 a.m.

What:  The Pre-opening Sneak Peek Tour will include a guided tour of the new store, plus food samples. Admission is $5 and all proceeds will go to the Healthy Plate Club, Inova’s obesity prevention program for low-income children

When: Tours begin every 15 minutes between 5:15 and 6:15 p.m. on Monday, January 8

The Inova Healthy Plate Club works to decrease obesity and its related diseases among low-income families in Fairfax County.  Students ages 5-13 learn how to make sustainable, long-lasting behavior changes through hands on cooking, creative taste tests and fun activities.  A primary focus of the program is to introduce low-income children to vegetables they may not try at home.

Earth Fare’s generous contribution will help children in the Healthy Plate Club learn how to cook, while also supporting behavior changes at home.
