Ebola Update as of October 17, 2014

Updated as of 5:45 p.m. on October 17, 2014:

A patient who presented to the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus Emergency Department for evaluation in relation to Ebola has not met the CDC criteria to be tested. This decision came after the patient was immediately isolated and had undergone triage in consultation with the Fairfax County Health Department and Virginia State Health Department. At this time, there is no additional information available.

A patient has presented to the Inova Fairfax Hospital Emergency Department for evaluation in relation to Ebola.  The patient was immediately isolated and is undergoing triage in consultation with the Fairfax County Health Department.  Based upon that evaluation, a decision will be made by the health department as to whether the patient meets the criteria to be tested for the Ebola virus.  At this time, there is no additional information available.

  • If the director of the CDC states that we should "think ebola", then why not err on the side of caution and test a person who recently traveled from West Africa? (rhetorical question....)

  • I agree B. Schnizler. Why not just test her to be sure? I'm not saying test everyone coming in vomiting and with headache, but if they traveled to W Africa recently, then yes, I say test them…Please.
