Inova Mount Vernon Oncology Nurse Honored By The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Michelle-CaycedoALEXANDRIA, VA – June 10, 2014 – Inova Mount Vernon Hospital employee Michelle Caycedo, RN, recently received the 2014 Hematology/Oncology Nurse of the Year Award from The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.   The award honors nurses who make a difference in the treatment and care for patients with blood cancers.

Michelle, a 15-year veteran of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, is an Infusion Nurse in the Medical Oncology Unit. She was nominated for the award by a patient who was touched by her contagious joy. Michelle said, ‘the clinic enables patients to receive treatment in a comfortable outpatient setting and then return home the same day.’ She is extremely passionate about oncology nursing, and has contributed significantly to the overall clinical outcomes of our patient population served in our Infusion center.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital’s Medical Oncology department has 30 in-patient beds, and a 12-bay out-patient infusion center. These nursing units are specialized in treating and caring for patients with cancers and other medical conditions. The Infusion Center nurses are trained in oncology specialty, and are competent in administering oncology related treatments including but not limited to chemotherapy. They effectively collaborate with different physicians and other inter-disciplinary team members to ensure a seamless delivery of care to our patients visiting our Infusion clinic.
