Military to Medicine Receives Technology Grant From Microsoft

Recognition Highlights Unlimited Potential of Military Families

Falls Church, VA – (March 3, 2011) – Inova Health System’s program, Military to Medicine has partnered with Microsoft, who, through its Unlimited Potential program, is supporting its work to create training and employment opportunities for the nation’s military family and to solve the healthcare worker shortage facing many communities.

“Microsoft understands that technology is central to the hiring and training solution Military to Medicine offers,” said Daniel Nichols, Executive Director, Military to Medicine. “Through this Unlimited Potential Grant, Microsoft is enabling Military to Medicine to unleash the potential and talent among military families who choose to serve their communities as quality, healthcare employees.”

More than 12,000 combat experienced medics have few or no options to obtain equivalent civilian licensure. There are nearly 540,000 military spouses who desire a career that can move with them and 504,000 unemployed veterans in the United States. Military to Medicine’s online healthcare training and National Healthcare Career Network provides these groups an employment opportunity in healthcare.

The Microsoft Unlimited Potential Grant will help Military to Medicine expand its outreach efforts among military families to raise awareness about the online training and National Healthcare Career Network available through this program.

“At Microsoft we believe that technology can play a significant role in supporting and enhancing the important work of programs like Military to Medicine,” according to Andrea Taylor, Director of Community Affairs in North America at Microsoft Corporation. “We passionately believe in the importance of helping our veterans to transition from military to civilian employment and that’s why we’re delighted to support Military to Medicine, which is providing military families with a valuable path to a career in healthcare.”
