Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a fundraising program developed by the American Cancer Society.

Inova Alexandria Hospital serves the surrounding communities of Virginia, Maryland and the Washington, DC area. Approximately half of the population is a race and/or ethnicity other than non-Hispanic white, putting many individuals at risk for late cancer screening or poor outcomes.

Despite the state of Virginia ranking 6th nationally for screening, breast cancer accounts for the second highest cancer death rate among women as recorded from 2014 to 2018. Race plays a major factor in both diagnosis and mortality, with African American and Hispanic women faring much worse than Caucasian women.

The 4 North A Team wanted to come together to support those in need beyond the help they provide patients every day.

Inova Alexandria Hospital leadership supported this effort by providing resources to create promotional flyers, space throughout the hospital for posting the flyers, and allocated time for the 4 North A Team captains to share the initiative during the October Unit Based Council meeting.

Through this collective effort, the team volunteered and worked together in support of Inova Alexandria Hospital and the needs of its community members.
