What Are Your Thoughts on Joining Inova Fair Oaks Hospital as CEO?

By Donald Brideau, MD, MMM

I’m extremely excited to work with the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) team. They have a commitment to excellence that is evident every day. My immediate goal is to get to know the team and any issues or barriers facing IFOH so that we can better work together and continue to offer excellent care.

One of the advantages that I have as an executive, both formerly at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital (IMVH) and now at IFOH, is that I’m still a practicing physician. As a physician, you learn how important it is to listen to all of the stakeholders on any given issue, so everyone has the ability to be heard. As an executive, I’m involved in strategic decisions and know the importance of including those who will be impacted directly by any strategic changes. Their input affects the outcome. In addition to my roles as CEO and a practicing physician, I love to educate. I lecture in the community about topics such as smoking cessation and heart disease prevention. I hope to see you at one of my lectures!

  • I'm 88 years old. My wife passed last September. The five years before her passing saw her at Fair Oaks Hospital at least three times. While we thought her care at the Emergency Room was reasonable, we were not happy with her care when admitted. Communication was the major problem. Just before her passing the Nursing Home sent her to Fairfax INOVA. The difference in the communication between our family and the staff at Fairfax was FAR superior to that at Fair Oaks.

I share this not as a complaint but as a thought that maybe since both hospitals are part of the INOVA system, Fair Oaks may be able to use Fairfax's system of communicating with the family.

    • Dear Mr. Marriott, thank you for sharing your feedback. I will forward it along to the Patient Relations teams at both hospitals. Condolences on the loss of your wife, and thank you again for taking the time to let us know about this.
