U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Rankings Recognizes Inova’s Excellence, Including #1 Hospital in Virginia and Greater Washington for Third Consecutive Year

Falls Church, VA – Inova Health System has been recognized as the region’s top health system by U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2023 Rankings. Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC) was named the #1 Best Hospital in both Virginia and the Washington, DC metropolitan area for the third year in a row. Additionally, IFMC’s Obstetrics and Gynecology department ranked among the top 20 hospitals in the country.

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and Inova Alexandria Hospital both ranked #8 in DC and #9 in Virginia.

In addition to overall best hospital rankings, all five Inova hospitals received recognition for high-performance in several specialties and common adult procedures and conditions. Earlier this year, Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital ranked #46 nationwide in Neonatology.  The hospital also ranked #3 in Virginia and #17 in the Mid-Atlantic Region for best children’s hospitals.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 34th year, evaluate 4,500 medical centers across the country and are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions; only 12% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

“For 34 years, U.S. News has provided data-informed rankings to help patients and their doctors find the best hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.
