Inova recognized for Leadership in Environmental Sustainability

Falls Church, VA – In recognition of achievements and innovation in health care sustainability, all five Inova hospitals received the Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in healthcare. In addition, Inova received the System for Change Award, which recognizes Inova’s ongoing commitment to improving environmental performance and efforts to build sustainability into its operations and culture.

Inova has made great strides in recent years toward reducing its impact on the environment and is committed to doing even more.  Examples of Inova’s environmental sustainability accomplishments in 2021 include:

• Recycled or diverted more than 3 million pounds of material from local landfills and waste to energy facilities.
• Continued the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) to help Inova team members access local and sustainable foods. Team members made more than 1,692 orders, contributing to their own wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of the planet.
• Distributed more than 1,000 tree seedlings to team members to help support the expansion of the tree canopy across the region.

The Practice Greenhealth awards recognize health systems, hospital facilities, health sector suppliers and member organizations for their work on waste minimization, green buildings, alternative transportation, sustainable purchasing and more.
