Inova Loudoun Hospital Earns 2021 Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award

Leesburg, VAInova Loudoun Hospital (ILH) is proud to announce it has been selected as a recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s (ENA) 2021 Lantern Award for demonstrating exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research at its Inova Virts Miller Family Emergency and Trauma Center and Inova Loudoun Hospital Cornwall Wheeler Family Emergency Department – Leesburg. Thirty-three emergency departments from across the United States have been named recipients of the ENA’s 2021 Lantern Award.

“Only three emergency departments in Virginia received this honor and two of those are at Inova,” said Susan Carroll FACHE, MBA, MHA, President, Western Region, Inova Health System. “Our emergency teams are extremely dedicated to improving patient outcomes and providing excellent care to each patient and family member they are privileged to serve. We are honored by this recognition.”

ILH was recognized for exceptional and innovative performance in emergency care — improved clinical outcomes for stroke patients by administering medication in the testing area, saving approximately 1 million brain cells a minute and enhanced patient evaluation for fall risk, which in turn resulted in zero falls over the last few years.

The ENA Lantern Award showcases an emergency department’s accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care. EDs are encouraged to share stories which highlight a commitment to care of patients as well as well-being of nursing staff. The award serves as a visible symbol of our commitment to quality, safety and a healthy work environment.

ILH’s Lantern Awards will be on display at both award winning emergency departments. As a recipient, ILH will be recognized in upcoming issues of ENA’s all-member magazine ENA Connection, on the ENA website and social media, and during Emergency Nursing 2021, the association’s annual conference in September.
