Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Recertified as Hip and Knee Replacement Center of Excellence by The Joint Commission

Falls Church, VA – Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) has been recertified as an accredited Knee and Hip Replacement Center of Excellence by The Joint Commission. IFOH has been a Joint Replacement Center of Excellence for the past 11 years, placing them among an elite group of hospitals nationwide to achieve excellence in spine care. The Joint Commission is a credentialing body that evaluates healthcare organizations on the safe and effective delivery of patient care. Designation is based on compliance with consensus-based national standards and the effective use of evidence-based clinical practice.

IFOH underwent a rigorous, multi-day review of the joint replacement program where they were evaluated for environment of care, infection prevention, medication management, quality of surgical care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care continuum, as well as clinical outcome measures, patient education and patient satisfaction.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organizations measure, assess and improve performance.

“We understand that quality, safety and reliability matter most to our patients, which is why we make it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Dr. James Reeves, Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. “The Inova Fair Oaks Hospital team is truly honored with the reaccreditation as a Center of Excellence for Hip and Knee Replacement and we celebrate the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff.”

Patient Safety and quality of care are at the forefront of the Joint Commission standards and this recertification aligns directly with the Inova Health System’s drive to excellence and mission to provide the highest quality healthcare to all of the members of our community we have the privilege to serve.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and Chief Nursing Executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
