Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Neurosciences Recertified as a Spine Center of Excellence by The Joint Commission

Falls Church, VA – Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) has been recertified as an accredited Spine Center of Excellence by The Joint Commission. IFOH has been a Spine Center of Excellence for the past 11 years, placing them among an elite group of hospitals nationwide to achieve excellence in spine care. The Joint Commission is a credentialing body that evaluates healthcare organizations on the safe and effective delivery of patient care. Designation is based on compliance with consensus-based national standards and the effective use of evidence-based clinical practice.

IFOH underwent a rigorous, multi-day onsite review of the spine program where they were evaluated for environment of care, infection prevention, medication management, quality of surgical care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care continuum, as well as clinical outcome measures, patient education and patient satisfaction.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help healthcare organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“At Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, we continue to lead the way in orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal care, offering the latest advancements in technology and surgical options for patients,” said Christopher Silveri, MD, Co-Medical Director, Inova Spine Program, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. “We have set a benchmark in our region and the country with six consecutive Joint Commission re-certifications as a Spine Center of Excellence.”

“We strive to bring the best in spine care to our patients including non-surgical care, pain management and surgical care,” added Donald Hope, M.D., Co-Medical Director, Inova Spine Program, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. “Our re-certification reflects our continuous effort and commitment to providing safe and effective spine care for our patients.”

The Inova Spine Program is a collaboration between Inova Neurosciences and the Inova Musculoskeletal service lines and is an inter-disciplinary team of Inova and Inova-affiliated physicians consisting of physiatrists, anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neuroradiologists, musculoskeletal specialists, rehabilitation specialists, therapists and nurses. The spine program helps patients determine the best treatment option for back and neck pain and spinal conditions whether in pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation or surgical care with access to the latest surgical technologies and imaging equipment.
