Inova’s Craig Cheifetz, MD, Awarded Prestigious Laureate Award

Falls Church, VA – Craig Cheifetz, MD, Regional Dean and Vice President of Corporate Health Services at Inova, received the Laureate award from the Virginia chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP).  The Laureate is the most prestigious award the chapter presents and is designed to honor Fellows and Masters of the College who have demonstrated, by their example and conduct, an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, and research, and service to their community, their chapter, and the ACP.

Dr. Cheifetz has been an integral part of Inova and Inova Fairfax Hospital medical staff for more than 23 years. He has served a total of 10 years on the ACP Virginia Chapter Governor’s Council, from 2003-2010, and then again from 2015-2018.

“Craig is a natural leader and fulfills the highest ideals of the practice of medicine,” said J. Stephen Jones, MD, President and CEO, Inova Health System. “His clinical expertise is enriched by his passion for health education and caring for the whole person.  We are proud to have him lead our corporate medicine program and be recognized with this award for his dedication to his patients and our community.”

On the Virginia Governor’s Council, Dr. Cheifetz was a powerful advocate for the issues faced by young physicians.  He started the Council of Young Physicians in Virginia in 2007 and shepherded this council as both a leader and a mentor.  His efforts were recognized at the National level on several occasions, including in 2010 when the national ACP awarded him the Walter J. McDonald Award for Young Physicians.

He served as the Chair of the Virginia State Scientific Program in 2007 and 2009 and as the medical student advisor on the Governor’s council from 2015-2018.

Dr. Cheifetz received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and completed his internal medicine training at Georgetown School of Medicine.
