Inova Health System to Add HealthPlex as Anchor for Stonebridge’s Development in Alexandria’s Oakville Triangle

Stonebridge, Carras Partners, and Inova Health System announce an agreement that advances the redevelopment of Alexandria’s Oakville Triangle neighborhood with an Inova HealthPlex as the anchor tenant.  Located across from Potomac Yard, the Oakville Triangle HealthPlex is a service of Inova Alexandria Hospital and will include an emergency room, multi-use outpatient care center and medical offices.

The Oakville Triangle site has been reimagined by Stonebridge and Carras Partners to meet the needs of the community due to the planned development in nearby National Landing.  The Inova HealthPlex provides an important community focused anchor for the project. The new plan also calls for mixed use development with ground floor neighborhood serving retail and a mix of residential buildings from townhouses to multi-family buildings.  One of the key features of the original plan was significant enhancements to Mount Jefferson Park – the new plan provides for further expansion and improvements to the Park.

“Inova is committed to providing a patient-centric, highly reliable, seamless system of care,” said J. Stephen Jones, MD, FACS, President and CEO of Inova.  “All five Inova hospitals were recently awarded Five Stars by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and we are committed to providing the same five-star quality care at every Inova facility, including the HealthPlex in Oakville Triangle, to every patient we have the privilege to serve.”

“We are excited to bring this important service to this area of Alexandria and all of National Landing,” said Douglas M. Firstenberg, a Principal of Stonebridge.  “Beyond the tremendous community benefits of Inova’s HealthPlex, it will create synergy with the other mixed-use development in this project.”

The new HealthPlex is part of Inova’s ongoing assessment of community needs and efforts to continuously improve our healthcare delivery system.  The HealthPlex will expand Inova’s system of services in the growing eastern region of Northern Virginia, which includes the City of Alexandria and surrounding communities, Mount Vernon, Lorton, Franconia and Springfield.

“The new Inova HealthPlex in Oakville Triangle will help meet the growing healthcare needs in our community and complement our existing full-service acute care hospital in Alexandria,” said Rina Bansal, MD, MBA, and President of Inova Alexandria Hospital.  “Inova’s continued commitment to the City of Alexandria promises even greater access to the world class healthcare services Inova provides throughout the region.”

The community is invited to attend an informational meeting on March 26, at 7 p.m. (the location will be announced shortly).    Stonebridge will work with the community and the City over the next year to position the project to begin construction in 2021 with the first buildings opening in 2023.
