Larry Maxwell, MD, Named President, Inova Women’s Service Line

Physician to lead Inova’s Nationally Ranked Women’s Services

Falls Church, VA – Larry Maxwell, MD, FACOG, COL (ret) U.S. Army, has been named President, Inova Health System’s Women’s Service Line.  In this role, Dr. Maxwell is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive, consistently high-performing service line, continuing to build upon Inova’s nationally ranked Women’s Service Line.

“We are pleased to have Dr. Maxwell in this critical role, leading the region’s highest ranked gynecology department and broad range of women’s services at our five hospitals, ambulatory centers, clinics and physician offices,” commented Steve Motew, MD, Chief, Clinical Enterprise of Inova.  “Inova is the place to go for women’s health and Dr. Maxwell has devoted his entire career to women’s health and wellness.”

Over the course of Dr. Maxwell’s 20 years of uniformed service, he held the positions of Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Deputy Director of the United States Military Cancer Institute, and Principal Investigator for the Department of Defense Gynecologic Cancer Center of Excellence.  He retired as a Colonel in the United States Army. Dr. Maxwell joined Inova in 2011 as Chairman, Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Maxwell earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
