Inova Hospitals Recognized for Excellence

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and Inova Alexandria Hospital Earn National Recognition 2019 Leapfrog Top Hospital Awards for Outstanding Quality and Safety

Falls Church, VA – Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC) and Inova Alexandria Hospital (IAH) have once again been recognized as Top Hospitals by The Leapfrog Group for protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. IFMC was named a Top Teaching Hospital and IAH a Top General Hospital. The Top Hospital Award is based upon the highest performance standards for quality and patient safety, and only 120 hospitals nationwide are recognized with this distinction.

This is the second consecutive year both Inova Fairfax and Inova Alexandria Hospitals have received Top Hospital designations. Last month, all five Inova hospitals were awarded ‘A’ grades for the fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, a national distinction that recognizes Inova’s achievements.

Of the 2,100 hospitals considered for the Top Hospital Award, IFMC is one of only 55 Top Teaching Hospitals, and IAH is among 37 Top General Hospitals to receive this distinction. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors.
