Theresa M. Davis Inducted into American Academy of Nursing Fellows

Falls Church, VA – Inova is proud to announce Theresa M. Davis, PhD, RN, NE-BC, FAAN, Clinical Operations Director of enVision eICU, was inducted into the 2018 class of American Academy of Nursing Fellows. Dr. Davis is one of only eight fellows from the state of Virginia to be inducted into the class of 2018, and the only representative from a hospital in Northern Virginia.

The Class of 2018 fellows is composed of 195 nurse leaders in education, management, practice and research; and they represent the most highly distinguished nurse leaders from across the country. The Fellows are selected based on their commitment and contributions to the Academy and their engagement with other health leaders outside of the Academy.

Dr. Davis joined Inova in 1986. As clinical director of the teleICU at Inova, she led the implementation of the teleICU in critical care in 2004 and was at the forefront of a new frontier in virtual communication. Dr. Davis’ research on Healing Touch interventions has been proven to decrease the symptoms of pain and anxiety in critical care and orthopedic patients, encouraging nonpharmacological solutions for pain relief.  She also implemented the teledisaster program across the Northern Virginia region to improve situational awareness and leverage clinical expertise during emergency incidents.

“We are extremely proud and thankful to have Terry representing Inova as an American Academy of Nursing Class of 2018 Fellow,” said Maureen Sintich, DNP, MBA, RN, Chief Nurse Executive. “Her impressive and essential work in advancing telemedicine in critical care, emergency response and nonpharmacological pain relief solutions has had a significant impact on not only Inova but the nursing profession as a whole. We are lucky to have her as part of our team.”

The American Academy of Nursing Fellows are recognized for their contributions to enhancing the quality of health and nursing; promoting healthy aging and human development across the life continuum; reducing health disparities and inequalities, shaping healthy behaviors and environments; integrating mental and physical health; and strengthening the nursing and health delivery system national and internationally.

The Academy fellows, with the addition of the newest class, represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 29 countries.
