Inova Loudoun Hospital Announces New Resource for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Victims

Leesburg, VA — Inova Loudoun Hospital is pleased to announce the Charles B. and Betty G. Ewing FACT Department – home of the Inova Loudoun Hospital Ewing Forensic Assessment and Consultation Team (FACT) will open in May 2018. Sexual assault and domestic violence victims will be able to go any time – day or night— to receive expert medical evaluation, forensic evidence collection and medical and emotional support.  The FACT staff, including two medical directors (one adult, one pediatric), six Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)/forensic nurses and a child life specialist, will address the unique needs of abused children and adults, and will also provide expert advice based on training, experience and medical data.

Located at Inova Loudoun’s Cornwall Campus, 224A Cornwall Street, NW, in downtown Leesburg (same building as the Inova Emergency Room – Leesburg / Wheeler Family Emergency Department and the Loudoun Child Advocacy Center), the 1,500 square foot department offers a private entrance; waiting, consult and exam rooms; and a bathroom.

“It’s unfortunate that these services are needed but we are thankful we can offer victims help and compassionate care closer to home.  This new Inova Ewing FACT Department will provide victims access to services 24/7,” stated Deborah Addo, CEO, Inova Loudoun Hospital.

In 2017, the Inova Ewing FACT Department’s total number of patients was 880, a 30% increase from the previous year. Of those 880 encounters, 96 were Loudoun residents. Since January 1, 2018, the FACT Department staff has seen 35 Loudoun patients.

“We are grateful to the Ewing family for their continued support of the Inova FACT program, this expansion into Loudoun County would not have been possible without their generosity. The

number of lives – victims, family members, law enforcement, safety net providers, support organizations, staff – the Ewings have impacted is impressive,” said Karen Berube, Assistant Vice President, Safety Net Clinics, Inova.

“It is with great pride that we can take part in our parent’s legacy.  The Inova Ewing FACT Centers are now more important than ever for the care of our community.  Knowing children and adults of sexual assault or abuse have a safe place to go and will receive the highest level of care now at Inova Loudoun is incredible. We are honored to be a part of such an important part of our communities’ care,” stated Sally Sagarese, daughter of Chuck and Betty Ewing.
