Emergency Nurses Association Recognizes 2017 Achievement Awards Local Nurse Wins National Award

Leesburg, VA — The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) recently honored recipients of its 2017 Achievement Awards. These national awards recognize emergency nurses and exemplary supporters of the profession who demonstrate exceptional professional practice, innovation, leadership and advocacy.

Inova Loudoun Hospital Children’s ER Nurse Manager Gina Harrison, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, was presented with the national Nurse Manager Award. Harrison has 20 years of ER experience with 10 years in leadership roles. Under her leadership, the Children’s ER received the ENAs prestigious Lantern Award in 2016, one of only 11 nationwide to receive the designation that year. Harrison has contributed to the emergency nursing body of knowledge through two publications in the Journal of Emergency Nursing.

“We are thankful Gina has received this well-deserved, national honor,” said April Brown, Senior Director, Emergency Services, Trauma Services, and Diagnostic Imaging at Inova Loudoun Hospital.

“She is a great advocate for the pediatric patients in our community, always striving to provide more, unique services right here in our county. Gina leads her team implementing best practices not only at the Children’s ER in Lansdowne but at all four of our emergency rooms in Loudoun.”

Award recipients are selected by healthcare professionals who recognize colleagues as extraordinary practitioners that continually go above and beyond the call of duty in emergency nursing. Each of the 16 awards has specific requirements and criteria, and the ENA Awards Committee reviews each blinded submission.

“It is a difficult task honoring a select few among the thousands of our hardworking members who continually provide the utmost quality emergency care,” said ENA president Karen K. Wiley, MSN, RN, CEN. “That said, we are proud to recognize the 2017 Achievement Award recipients who continue to achieve excellence in emergency nursing.”

Raised in western Loudoun County, Harrison graduated from Loudoun Valley High School and received her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and masters in nursing administration from Shenandoah University.
