Inova Heart and Vascular Institute’s Fairfax Medical Campus Awarded Cardiac Electrophysiology Accreditation by IAC

Falls Church, VA – Inova Heart and Vascular Institute’s flagship Fairfax Medical Campus has been granted accreditation for Cardiac Electrophysiology in the areas of Device Implantation, Chronic Lead Extraction, Testing and Ablation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

Accreditation by IAC, which involves a thorough review by a panel of medical experts, indicates that Inova’s department has undergone an intensive application and review process. IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care and a dedication to continuous improvement.

“The IAC review encompassed a rigorous evaluation of quality and safety metrics,” according to Christopher O’Connor, MD and Chief Executive Officer of Inova Heart and Vascular Institute. “This recognition is testimony to the training and qualifications of our cardiac electrophysiologists and staff, and to the quality and safety provided to our patients.”

“We are thrilled that Inova Fairfax is the only hospital in the metro D.C. area to have earned accreditation in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology,” according to Marc Wish, MD and Chief of Electrophysiology at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute. “The process took nearly a year and we are proud to have the quality of our work affirmed by such a widely respected organization.”

Conducted to relieve symptoms or regulate heart rate and rhythm, cardiac electrophysiology procedures are performed by facilities that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders.  Each year more than 3,000 cardiac devices and ablation procedures are performed at Inova’s Heart and Vascular Institute for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders.
