Film Explores End-of-Life Care – Inova Offers Free Screenings of ‘Being Mortal’

Falls Church, VA – January 23, 2017 – Inova, in partnership with Signature Partners and Health Quality Innovators, is holding free, community screenings of the PBS FRONTLINE documentary “Being Mortal.” The film, which explores end-of-life care, can be viewed at the Inova Center for Personalized Health on:

  • Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Monday, February 6, 2017, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 1, 2017, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Based on the best-selling book by Dr. Atul Gawande, the film investigates the practice of caring for the dying, explores the relationships between patients and their doctors and inquires into the hopes of patients and families facing advanced illness. “Being Mortal” underscores the importance of people planning ahead and talking with family members about end-of-life decisions.

After the screening, audience members can participate in a guided conversation with physicians and community members on how to take the appropriate steps to identify and communicate wishes about end-of-life goals and preferences.

The free screening is made possible by a grant from The John and Wauna Harman Foundation in partnership with the Hospice Foundation of America.
