Inova Now Connected to Department of Defense to Share Health Records

FALLS CHURCH, VA – December 22, 2015 – Through its participation in the eHealth Exchange, a federal level health information exchange, Inova is now able to electronically exchange information with the Department of Defense.

Launched in 2009, the eHealth Exchange has become a rapidly growing community of public and private organizations, representing thousands of providers and millions of patients.  The partnership allows clinicians to share patient information across both systems without paper or faxing, resulting in improved coordination of care for patients who receive care in multiple locations.

“Inova’s partnership with the Department of Defense through the eHealth Exchange will provide a platform for securely exchanging health information to improve patient care and public health supporting the large population of military personnel in the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia areas,” Ryan Bosch, Vice President, Technology Services and Chief Medical Information Officer.

The eHealth Exchange helps to improve the health and welfare of Americans through health information exchange that is trusted, scalable and enhances quality of care and health outcomes.  Providers are able to use the data available through eHealth Exchange to quickly find and notify patients who may be at risk for problems related to unsafe drugs or recalled medical devices, identify epidemics nationwide, and allow researchers to analyze treatment and outcome data to identify best practices. The eHealth Exchange connectivity spans across all 50 states and is the largest HIE infrastructure in the US.
