ALEXANDRIA, VA – June 20, 2014 – Inova Mount Vernon Hospital officially introduced its new CEO, Deborah Addo, who commenced her tenure with the announcement of a $2 million philanthropic gift from local and long-time resident Jeffrey Veatch.

Meeting with Mount Vernon community leaders and area media, Addo talked about her nearly 30 years of experience in healthcare and her vision for Inova Mount Vernon Hospital’s future. She also thanked Veatch whose $2 million matching gift will fund the expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department.

“I am privileged to join Inova which is deeply committed to the Mount Vernon community and expanding its resources to address the healthcare needs of its residents, especially children and seniors,” said Addo. “I also wish to thank Jeff Veatch for his generous contribution and leadership to engage the community in building the future of health.”

Veatch’s gift is the largest donation from a Mount Vernon resident received by the hospital. In addition, Veatch structured his donation to match additional contributions from area residents up to $2 million.

“Everyone in the Mount Vernon community and beyond can give,” said Veatch. “No matter how big or how small the donation, I want to invite and encourage everyone, particularly those in Mount Vernon, to participate and to make a difference in improving access to emergency care in our own community.”

The community’s donations and Veatch’s matching funds will help to increase the actual size and number of treatment rooms from 20 to 35. In addition, some of the treatment rooms will be built specifically for children. The waiting room also will be expanded and a children’s play area will be added.

A larger Emergency Department is necessary to accommodate Mount Vernon’s growing population and the rapidly increasing number of patient visits to IMVH. Inova estimates that more than 41,000 people will seek emergency care in the region this year.

Veatch is a co-founder and former co-CEO of Apex Systems, Inc., one of the nation’s largest information technology staffing and services firms. Veatch and his business partners recently sold the company to On Assignment, where he currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Addo comes to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital from Meritus Healthcare in Hagerstown, the largest healthcare provider in Western Maryland. At Meritus, Addo served as the chief operating officer and senior vice president.

Addo brings nearly three decades of healthcare operations and management experience to Inova, with areas of expertise in strategic planning, financial management, physician engagement and population health.

In recent years, Inova has invested more than $86 million in Inova Mount Vernon Hospital to add a new patient tower, more private rooms, two new operating rooms and enhance the hospital’s nationally renown joint replacement and rehabilitation medicine services.
