FALLS CHURCH, VA (August 13, 2013) – The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has conferred a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence on Inova’s enVision eICU, making it the first Tele-ICU to be recognized with this esteemed critical care award.  According to Tracy Barron, senior director, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, “A Gold Beacon Award recognizes the eICU’s strong contribution, in partnership with the eight units it serves, to optimal patient outcomes and the importance of innovative structures to ensure excellent patient care.”

Inova’s enVision eICU is capable of clinical assessment, evaluation, and treatment of critically ill patients in multiple ICUs and hospitals from a remote location.  The eICU provides clinical support for one hundred and thirty-four beds, eight intensive care units, and five hospitals. Thirteen emergency departments in five hospital systems use eCareMobiles for disaster support.

“The clinical model functions as a safety net for patients, nurses, and attending physicians,” observed William Jackson, MD, MBA, Inova’s System Director for Adult Critical Care.  “Using remote video and voice technology, the eICU provides critical care intensivist physician expertise, improving patient outcomes in collaboration with ICUs.”
