AARP The Magazine April/May 2013 Issue Lists

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital as Innovator in Safety

FAIRFAX, VA – (May 20, 2013) – To call attention to hospital safety in the United States, AARP The Magazine teamed up with the nonprofit organization The Leapfrog Group to highlight the innovative steps some hospitals are taking to protect the health of their patients and to publish a list of America’s Safest Hospitals.  Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is featured on this list as one of the nation’s “safety superstars.”  Inova Loudoun Hospital also made the list which included a total of 66 hospitals in the nation with only 5 of those from Virginia.

The April/May 2013 issue, in-homes and online, showcases these “safety superstars.”  From creating patient alerts to implementing electronic medical recordkeeping, AARP The Magazine article, “Lessons From America’s Safest Hospitals,” reveals what these groundbreaking hospitals are doing to prevent mistakes and how patients can properly arm themselves against preventable errors.

“Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is honored to be listed as one of the nation’s Safest Hospitals.  While we appreciate the recognition, our focus remains on daily, relentless efforts to improve our safety and reduce errors,” said Dr. G. Michael Lynch, Chief Medical Officer, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.  “Providing safe and reliable care to every patient we serve is our number one priority.”
