Inova Loudoun Hospital Recognized for IBCLC Care Award

Hospital’s Lactation Care Program Highlighted

Leesburg, VA – (March 21, 2012) — The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) have recognized Inova Loudoun Hospital for excellence in lactation care.

Inova Loudoun Hospital has received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition for staffing International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs) and providing a lactation program that is available 5-7 days a week for breastfeeding families. In addition, the facility demonstrated that they have provided recent breastfeeding training for medical staff that care for new families, and have recently completed activities that help protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.

“It’s nice to be recognized for the work that we enjoy providing the community. This award assures our patients that they’re receiving first-class care,” commented Tracy Cross, RN, IBCLC, RLC, Nurse Manager Lactation, Inova Loudoun Hospital Birthing Inn.

IBCLCs focus on preventive care, so they are available during pregnancy to assess the mother and provide information on how to get off to a good start. They continue that assistance after the baby is born by helping mothers latch their babies appropriately and answering their questions, and continue supporting them as their baby grows. They assist mothers returning to work or school, and help mothers in more unusual situations such as breastfeeding more than one baby, nursing a sick or premature infant, and dealing with other challenges.

Inova Loudoun Hospital Lactation Center and Boutique is located at  44055 Riverside Parkway, Suite 109, Leesburg, in the  Physician Office building across from The Birthing Inn. Free drop-in support is available at the weekly support group. The group meets on Wednesdays from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. to  discuss breastfeeding common concerns such as poor latch, pain, milk supply, breastfeeding in public and pumping. Join other breastfeeding mothers in a private group setting with a lactation facilitator.

The Center and Boutique are open Monday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  For class registration, consultation appointments and pump rentals call 703-858-8911. For more information on lactation services at Inova Loudoun Hospital visit us on the web at inova.org/ilh-lactation.
