Inova Health System Among 2011 Top Performing hospitals

Falls Church, VA – (January 18, 2012) – Each of Inova Health System’s hospitals (Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and Inova Loudoun Hospital) was named 2011 Top Performing Hospitals in the Premier Healthcare Alliance’s national Quest collaborative. Culminating a voluntary 3-year QUEST program, Inova participated in the exercise out of a commitment to patient best interests and dedication to reducing preventable harm and readmission.

“Our challenge was to provide better care for individuals, improve our community’s health services and, ultimately, reduce healthcare costs,” according to Knox Singleton, CEO, Inova Health System. “Our vision for the future is to optimize the health and well-being of each individual we serve. We know that reducing errors and curbing excessive costs is part of achieving that vision. So we will continue to share our patient outcomes data and best practices with other healthcare organizations as part of our effort to lead the industry in world class care.”

QUEST supports hospitals in delivering the best care possible, with 278 QUEST members in just 30 months saving 25,235 lives and reducing healthcare spending by $2.85 billion through the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to 63,094 patients.

Susan DeVore, Premier president and CEO said, “These hospitals challenged themselves to overcome process failures and excessive costs by measuring themselves against each other to drive success. The achievements made by QUEST members are remarkable as they continue to reveal what is possible in healthcare. Inova Health System is a true standard setter for top quality care in America.”

Inova Health System is a not-for-profit health care system based in Northern Virginia that consists of hospitals and other health services, including emergency- and urgent-care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services, and wellness classes. Governed by a voluntary board of community members, Inova’s mission is to improve the health of the diverse community it serves through excellence in patient care, education and research.
