Inova Blood Donor Services’ Inaugural Short Film Competition a Success

Winning Videos from High School Students to Be Used for Future Education

Falls Church, VA – (June 20, 2011) – Inova Blood Donor Services is proud to announce the winners of its first short film competition, a contest open to high school students and designed to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation.

Kenneth Black, Amrit Kaur and Hind Daanouni from C.D. Hylton High School in Prince William County won first place with a horror-like film that included a vampire and ended with a testimonial from a student about her need for blood transfusions due to sickle-cell disease.

Second place went to Justin Humphries and Jonathan Gladish from Tuscarora High School in Loudoun County. They used Leonardo da Vinci and Albert Einstein to deliver their message about the importance of blood donation.

“We want to thank all of the students who took the time to create these amazing videos,” said Melanie Allen, Marketing Manager, Inova Blood Donor Services. “It’s important we start focusing our educational efforts on future generations. This was a fun way to get high school students involved and to see the way blood donation is perceived through their eyes.”

All entries were posted on Inova Blood Donor Services’ Facebook page and YouTube channel for the community to vote for their favorite. The videos will be used as a tool to educate and to raise awareness of blood donation. The Short Film Competition will start round two in the fall.
