Inova Alexandria Hospital, American College of Emergency Physicians Recognize 50th Anniversary of First 24-Hour Emergency Department in U.S.

‘Alexandria Plan’ Became Nationwide Standard

Alexandria, VA – (June 17, 2011) – Inova Alexandria Hospital and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) will be celebrating 50 years of emergency care by recognizing the first emergency department in the country to have dedicated, full-time emergency physicians. This initiative, called the “Alexandria Plan,” shaped emergency care across the nation as Alexandria Hospital set the standard for increasing access to emergency services around-the-clock.
