Inova Loudoun Hospital Recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association

Stroke Program Earns ‘Silver Award’

Leesburg, VA – (May 16, 2011) – Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Stroke Program has been recognized by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for achieving the Silver and Silver Plus Performance Achievement Awards as part of its “Get With The Guidelines” (GWTG) program.

GWTG is an acute-care, hospital-based quality-improvement program that empowers healthcare providers to consistently treat heart and stroke patients according to the most up-to-date guidelines.  To earn a Silver Award, hospitals must follow treatment guidelines in certain key measures, and must maintain this performance level for one year.  In addition, the Silver Plus Award is an advanced level of recognition that further acknowledges a hospital’s compliance to Quality Measures considered important to prevent and treat the incidence of stroke.

“This award recognizes the high standard of care that Inova Loudoun Hospital provides stroke victims in our community. We are honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association,” stated Randy Kelley, CEO, Inova Loudoun Hospital.

Inova Loudoun Hospital, serving Loudoun County for nearly 100 years, are part of Inova Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare system based in Northern Virginia that consists of hospitals and other health services, including emergency- and urgent-care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services, and wellness classes.  Governed by a voluntary board of community members, Inova’s mission is to improve the health of the diverse community it serves through excellence in patient care, education and research.
