Inova to Honor Past and Present Leaders, Staff and Community Supporters

Falls Church, VA – (May 4, 2011) – In honor of its 50th anniversary, Inova Fairfax Hospital is pleased to bring together those who helped found and develop the hospital from a small, community hospital to a major regional medical center. At a reception on Wed., May 11, Inova will honor original medical staff, nursing staff and hospital leaders for their role in the campus’s evolution, from 1961’s The Fairfax Hospital to today’s Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Local elected officials will present resolutions in honor of the hospital’s dedication, its growth and its service to the community during the past five decades.

At 8 a.m. on Feb. 6, 1961, the 96-bed hospital opened its doors for the first time. Fifty years later, the hospital has transformed into a world-class, regional medical and research center with 833 beds. Its campus includes Northern Virginia’s only Level 1 trauma center, a nationally-ranked cardiac program, the fifth busiest obstetrics program in the country and Northern Virginia’s only Children’s Hospital.

Inova Health System is a not-for-profit healthcare system based in Northern Virginia that consists of hospitals and other health services, including emergency- and urgent-care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services, and wellness classes.
