ALEXANDRIA, VA – (June 7, 2010) − The Twig, the Inova Alexandria Hospital auxiliary, has pledged $1 million for the hospital’s Project 2010, an $84 million construction and renovation plan.

Twig announced the new pledge soon after presenting  the final installment of its $750,000 pledge to the hospital at its June 2nd annual luncheon. The money donated through the $750,000 contribution has helped  fund the Twig Pavilion, a 16-room Telemetry Unit that enables caregivers to monitor patients more closely and further assist in their recovery.

“The dedication and self sacrifice of The Twig members is laudable,” said Seema Nawaz,  Immediate Past President of The Twig. “This group of dedicated women choose to volunteer their time because they want to support the hospital that cares for the community it serves, the community we live in.”

The $1 million gift will go toward construction of a new 24-bed post surgical center. It is believed to be the largest gift ever from a volunteer organization in the City of Alexandria.

Twig has donated more than $2.5 million in support of nursing education, clinical certification and various projects at Inova Alexandria Hospital. The junior auxiliary also presents the Historic Alexandria Homes Tour and operates a Thrift Store in Old Town Alexandria, which donates 100 percent of its proceeds to the hospital.
