Inova Health System Named Among Nation’s Top 250 Most Innovative Companies

2009 InformationWeek 500 List Highlights Top Technology Innovators

Falls Church, VA – (September 23, 2009) – Inova Health System has been named one of America’s top 250 most innovative companies, as part of the 2009 InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the most innovative users of business technology. Now in its 22nd year, the InformationWeek 500 also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies.

“Being named among the top 250 companies in the nation for IT innovation further validates that our investment in technology has been prudent and successful,” said Geoff Brown, SVP, Chief Information Officer, Inova Health System. “We continually strive to implement leading-edge technology that ensures our patients will get the best and safest care possible.”

The InformationWeek 500 rankings spotlight the power of innovation in information technology, rather than focusing solely on an organization’s budget for IT. Among other things, Inova Health System was recognized by InformationWeek for making all its hospital Emergency Departments paperless, deploying computerized physician order entry and utilizing handheld scanners and label printers for accurate labeling, and specimen and vital sign collection, which confirms positive patient identification, eliminates errors due to mislabeling and improves overall patient safety.
