Loudoun County Board of Supervisors BRMC Decision
Leesburg, VA – (February 3, 2009) – The citizens of Loudoun County were the clear winners today in the rejection of a hospital in Broadlands by a majority of the Board of Supervisors. This case was never about Inova or HCA. There were only two real issues: HCA’s attempt to upzone an established residential neighborhood, and healthcare policies that ensure equal access to healthcare for every citizen in every part of Loudoun County. A hospital in Broadlands failed to meet the standards in both instances.
We applaud the majority of the Board of Supervisors who were able to cut through the spin and misdirection and make the right decision on healthcare policy. These supervisors did their homework and understood the real issues. These supervisors stood up for preserving the integrity of established residential neighborhoods. These supervisors stood up for the County’s Comprehensive Plan, which seeks to ensure that citizens of Leesburg and Lovettsville and Purcellville and Middleburg — and on Route 50 — get access to the kind of hospital and healthcare that they deserve.
Inova stands ready to deliver on the promise of a hospital on Route 50. We will not oppose HCA in moving to the Route 50 location. If HCA continues to refuse to serve the citizens of Loudoun County as called for in the Comprehensive Plan, then Inova will do so.
