Inova Alexandria Hospital Names Joy Corriher Chief Nurse Executive

Nursing Executive Brings Nearly 30 Years of Experience to Inova Alexandria Hospital

Alexandria, VA – (August 9, 2007) — Inova Alexandria Hospital is pleased to announce that Joy Corriher, RN, MSN, MPH has been named chief nurse executive. Corriher has nearly 30 years of nursing experience. For the past 10 years she served as the chief nursing officer and the vice president of patient care services with Inova Loudoun Hospital.

“We are very excited that Joy has accepted this new role with our hospital,” said Rod Huebbers, executive vice president, Inova Health System. “Over the years, Joy has proven her leadership skills and we’re confident that her experience and commitment to quality health care will help enhance our service to the community.”

Previously, Corriher worked at North Carolina Baptist Hospital System as director of the Wake Forest University Heart Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.  While there she also held positions as a nurse manager for trauma surgery and as a staff instructor.

As the chief nursing officer at the then Loudoun Hospital, Corriher achieved numerous recognitions for superior clinical and patient care, culminating in the hospital’s recent Magnet designation. Corriher was also responsible for improving quality and safety results throughout the hospital and helping to reduce costs by $13 million.

In addition, Corriher is a member of the American Nurses Association, the Virginia Nurses Association and the American Organization of Nurse Executives.

Corriher holds Master’s degrees in Public Health and Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also a Ph.D. candidate at George Mason University.
