Inova Health System Named AARP Best Employer for Workers Over 50

System Recognized By AARP for Second Consecutive Year

Falls Church, VA – (August 30, 2006) – Inova Health System has once again been named one of the nation’s “50 Best Employers for Workers Over 50” by the American Association of Retired People, or AARP. The award, now in its sixth year, was established by AARP to honor employers showing a commitment to an aging workforce.

Inova Health System was selected as among the nation’s best employers for many workforce initiatives, including flexible scheduling and tuition assistance.

“It’s an honor to be named among the nation’s 50 best employers for workers over 50,” says Kylanne Green, senior vice president, Continuum of Care; interim senior vice president, Human Resources, Inova Health System. “Our over 50 employees mean so much to us. Oftentimes they bring years upon years of invaluable knowledge and expertise to their roles.”

At Inova Health System, 28 percent of employees are 50 and older, while 11 percent of the system’s new hires in the past year are 50 and older. Inova Health System offers its employees a free 24/7 referral and counseling service to assist with financial problems, elder care assistance for a parent living across the country, alcohol or substance abuse, and child care needs. Also, the system’s phased retirement program offers 36 different scheduling options that employees can customize to meet their needs.

Inova Health System is a not-for-profit healthcare system based in Northern Virginia that consists of hospitals and other health services, including emergency- and urgent-care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services, and wellness classes. Governed by a voluntary board of community members, Inova’s mission is to improve the health of the diverse community it serves through excellence in patient care, education and research.
