Looking Ahead

In February 2015, Inova announced the acquisition of the ExxonMobil campus, located across the street from Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. The 117- acre site will be home to the Inova Center for Personalized Health and is the latest example of our commitment to genomic research and personalized medicine.

Todd Stottlemyer was hired as the CEO for the Center and Dr. Donald “Skip” Trump has been brought on as the CEO for the Dwight and Martha Schar Cancer Institute, creating together with ITMI CEO, Dr. John Niederhuber, a powerful team of visionary leaders around personalized health.

The work of defining what will be housed at the new campus is well underway. There are four existing buildings and a large conference center, and planning has commenced for the existing spaces, as well as the work of envisioning how the space can be best utilized to create a hub for innovation in healthcare for the sick, and also for the well in our community, and around the world.

Current plans for the existing buildings include a research tower, which will include ITMI, the Inova Dwight and Martha Schar Cancer Institute, a multidisciplinary condition centric clinic, a technology tower, and a wellness center. Along with these, several other ideas are being considered, but the unifying principle of everything housed in the center is personalized health and patient-centered care.

Whether we are treating a patient for cancer, prescribing medication, or designing a wellness program, the mission of the Inova Center for Personalized Health is to produce the science that will allow future treatments to be tailored to the individual’s genetic and genomic attributes, as well as, physical or psychosocial characteristics.
