Brain Tumor Treatment Guidelines Feature Inova Co-Author Dr. Mateo Ziu

Mateo Ziu, MD

Dr. Mateo Ziu, medical director of the Inova Brain and Spine Tumor Program and medical director of neuro-oncology at Inova Schar Cancer Institute, was a senior author on the recent article Urgent considerations for the neuro-oncologic treatment of patients with gliomas during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The piece contains professional guidelines for implementing a proactive and coordinated approach to care for adults with brain tumors in order to provide the best care, maximize the benefits and minimize the risks during the coronavirus pandemic (and potentially in the future). Topics include:

  • defining how we deliver care to adults with glioma
  • considering optimal timing of interventions
  • determining when the risk of exposure to the novel coronavirus or lack of access to the medical system to manage treatment-emergent complications may exceed the potential benefits of therapy

Read the guidelines from Dr. Ziu and the other authors on Oxford Academic.
