Loudoun County Public Schools and Inova Loudoun Hospital Celebrate Books for Babies Program

Leesburg, VA – October 28, 2014 – Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) and Inova Loudoun Hospital held the annual celebration of the Books for Babies program on October 22 at Inova Loudoun Hospital. Students from several elementary schools, Newton Lee, Sanders Corner and Leesburg, read a variety of books to a crowd of parents, teachers, principals, LCPS employees and hospital staff.

For the past 17 years, LCPS has provided approximately 3,000 English and Spanish books each year to the Books for Babies program. Community and hospital volunteers assembled the packages and The Birthing Inn staff has given new parents the books. This is an effort to help children understand the importance of early reading and beginning life-long learning at birth.

New this year, Books-A-Million will donate books to the hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department and the Pediatric Unit. They kicked off their donation by giving several hundred books for the pediatric patients and provided books to each participating student.
