Fairfax, VA – Inova Health is proud to announce that Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, and Inova Loudoun Hospital have all been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as 2026 High Performing hospitals for Maternity Care, the highest distinction awarded in the annual Best Hospitals for Maternity Care study.
Notably, this is the fifth consecutive year that Inova Fair Oaks Hospital has earned this recognition, a testament to its ongoing commitment to exceptional maternal and newborn care since U.S. News began evaluating maternity services in 2021.
For the 2026 edition, U.S. News evaluated maternity data for approximately 900 hospitals nationwide. Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ratings are intended to assist expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care providers, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meet their family’s needs.
These three Inova hospitals earned a High Performing designation in recognition of maternity care as measured by factors such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, severe unexpected newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, and birthing-friendly practices, among other measures.
“We are honored that Inova Alexandria, Inova Fair Oaks, and Inova Loudoun hospitals have all been recognized as High Performing for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report,” said Larry Maxwell, MD, President of Women’s Services at Inova. “This distinction reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire team in providing safe, compassionate, and family-centered care. We are especially proud that Inova Fair Oaks has maintained this distinction for five consecutive years, and we are excited that the exceptional care we provide is now being recognized at Inova Loudoun and Alexandria hospitals as well.”
“Hospitals designated as a U.S. News Best Hospital for Maternity Care are national leaders. This recognition means they are consistently hitting crucial patient safety benchmarks compared to other hospitals,” said Jennifer Winston, Ph.D., health data scientist at U.S. News. “It’s a clear signal to expectant parents about where the highest standards of care are being practiced – when parents see this designation, they can be assured they are choosing a hospital dedicated to exceptional, evidence-based maternity care.”
