Inova Hospitals earn ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group

New Grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety  

Fairfax, VA, May 1, 2025 – Inova is proud to announce that Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Loudoun Hospital have all earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.  

This national distinction highlights Inova’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. Only 33 hospitals in Virginia were awarded “A” grades for the spring 25 term.

Key milestones in patient safety at Inova hospitals:

• Inova Loudoun Hospital is one of only of 11 hospitals nationwide and three in Virginia to earn “Straight A’s” since the program’s inception, marking an extraordinary 27 consecutive “A” grades over 14 years.
• Inova Fair Oaks Hospital has earned 26 consecutive “A” grades, placing it among only 17 hospitals in the U.S. and four in Virginia with such a consistent record.
• Inova Fairfax Hospital has maintained “A” grades for 14 consecutive grading periods.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
