Fairfax, VA — June 11, 2024 — Each year Inova provides over $1 million to nonprofit organizations working to address health equity and social drivers of health in Northern Virginia. In June, Inova’s Division of Community Health and Health Equity celebrated twenty-three (23) community partners who received Inova’s Health Equity Opportunities funding. Selected from more than one hundred applications, these local nonprofits provide vital services to address essential health needs of under-resourced communities.

“The Inova Health Equity Opportunities reflects our commitment to not only recognize but invest in nonprofit community partners,” commented J. Stephen Jones, MD, FACS, President and Chief Executive Officer, Inova. “These colleagues have aligned with us to reduce health disparities for communities throughout Northern Virginia and address individuals’ social drivers of health. We thank and support each for their commitment and service.”

Inova requests proposals for Health Equity Opportunities annually, encouraging nonprofit organizations to expand services to meet the diverse healthcare needs of our communities. Applicants are required to propose impactful projects in their community that address issues identified in the Inova Community Health Needs Assessments and demonstrate good stewardship of resources. All recipients join Inova in the commitment to improving access to care and supporting the wellbeing of the Northern Virginia community.

  • This is wonderful to see. I do wish there were some kind of support offered as well for employees participating in fundraisers for health/mental health as well, even if it's not a community program. I have been doing an annual walk for Shatterproof since fall of 2019 to support all issues surrounding substance use/abuse. I started this after losing my youngest child to SUD in January of 2019. I fully recognize some of the names listed here that work to help people caught in this terrible disease and for that I am deeply grateful.
