Inova Hosts Dream B!G Day

High school seniors consider healthcare careers

Falls Church, VA — Inova Health System’s Dream B!G Program recently hosted 100 Fairfax County Public School seniors from West Potomac Academy for “A Day in the Life at Inova: Healthcare Exploration” at the Inova Fairfax Medical Center.

The program is designed for students to explore a future in healthcare, learning about multiple career paths while engaging with Inova healthcare team members and University of Virginia (UVA) medical students.  Activities included:

  • Tour the Advanced Surgical Technology and Education Center, the most technologically advanced surgery simulation facility in the region providing unsurpassed real-time surgical training
  • Work with mannequins at the Inova Center for Advanced Medical Simulation modeling medical conditions ranging from asthma to heart attacks
  • Observe a surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Dome
  • Learn physical exam skills with UVA medical students

“The students proved excited and engaged,” observed Deron Campbell, Inova’s Director of Community Health Programs, Population and Community Health Services.  “We appreciate the collaboration with Fairfax County Public Schools as, together, we work to encourage students to truly Dream B!G about their futures, especially in relation to the opportunities and satisfaction a career in healthcare affords.”
